Niche Modern began, believe it or not by accident. Niche Modern had a need to fill a spacious storefront with what Niche Modern believed should be some inspiring display lighting. Niche Modern had searched low and high for display lighting that they felt was inspiring and they couldn't find anything decent, so Niche Modern said, "Hey, let's just do it ourselves."
During this time the owners of Niche Modern, were busy planning the stores design. They took the weekends to walk from the East Village down to Chinatown to collect miscellaneous electrical parts and fun and outrageous light bulbs. While in the midst of looking for inspiration, Niche Modern met with a glass blower on the streets of Soho. Soon after, Niche Modern made a deceptively simple yet impossible sketch to make out of glass. And after one very long day prototyping in a glass studio in Brooklyn, the Stamen Modern Pendant Light was born. Niche Modern had never intended to sell the lights, just display them. But after persistently being asked about their availability, Niche Modern realized what was to become of the Harbinger lighting design. That is when Niche Modern was born.
Niche Modern believes you will appreciate the pure luxury of their hand blown modern lighting pendants in warm, translucent hues of grays and ambers. Niche Modern's pieces are as glorious as they are practical – whether dangling over a trendy, city bar scene or an intimate, dining room table. All of Niche Modern's fixtures are hand-blown glass; as original as snowflakes. No two are exactly the same. Niche Modern's lights and home furnishings are designed with their own high standards in mind. Niche Modern believes that good, solid design is found in the ironic joining together of contrasting elements, simple lines and luscious colors.
