David Trubridge | Lightopia: Designer Lighting

In 1972 David Trubridge graduated from Newcastle University with a degree in Naval Architecture (boat design). David Trubridge taught himself furniture making while working part-time as a forester on a private estate. David Trubridge went on to develop his own designs which were exhibited around Britain including the Victoria and Albert Museum, St Mary's Cathedral of Edinburgh and the Shipley Gallery Newcastle. Over recent years David Trubridge's designs have been featured countless times in publications around the world. The computer has played a large part in his recent artistic transformation, both in communication and design. David's early training in Naval Architecture prepared him well for computer 3D designing.

I do not design to fulfill a practical function. I design to communicate, to tell a story, to relate what I find in the mountains and wilderness and what it is to be human. As an artist I develop forms and a vocabulary from what I see and feel around me. This is my personal language that I use to tell my story.
